CEA to Host Annual Energy Day on Capitol Hill

Houston – May 6, 2009 You’ve heard of Earth Day, but how much do you know about Energy Day? On Wednesday, May 13, Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA) will be doing its part to build that awareness while promoting the thoughtful, creative utilization of America’s energy resources, hosting its annual Energy Day event in the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington.

“There’s never been a bad time to highlight the critical role that affordable energy plays in creating jobs, generating revenues, and strengthening our national security,” said CEA president David Holt. “But there’s never been a more important time than right now – especially with an economy in peril, millions of Americans out of work, and Congress looking for answers on how best to leverage America’s energy resources to address these historic challenges.”

With more than 70 members of Congress expected to participate in this year’s event, CEA Energy Day represents a chance for congressional leaders and their staff to join a unique collection of stakeholders to discuss and pursue an energy strategy that invests in new technology, encourages conservation and allows for responsible development of America’s natural resources, including our abundant supplies of oil and natural gas. Energy Day brings together consumers, businesses, manufacturers, agriculture organizations, retirees and transportation and energy providers for a conversation on America’s energy future as our nation tries to make its way back to prosperity.

“Four-dollar gas may be gone for now, but in many ways, America is no better off today in ensuring its citizens reliable, affordable energy supplies than we were last summer,” continues Holt. “Energy Day is all about finding new ways to look at old problems, partly by bringing together a diverse, some might even say unlikely, group of lawmakers, experts, and associations to take a look at where we’ve gone wrong in the past, and how we can make it right moving forward.”

Added Holt: “Energy Day 2008 was a great success, but the line-up we’ve assembled in 2009 promises to raise this event to a new level. Most Americans don’t view access to affordable energy as a partisan, political issue, and neither does CEA. We do view it as a critical one, however – and at its core, Energy Day is an attempt to bring together all sides and all sectors to find the best way forward for America’s energy future.”
