Consumer Energy Alliance

Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization created to help expand the dialogue between the energy and consuming sectors to improve understanding of energy security, more effectively develop and use both renewable and oil & gas energy resources in an environmentally conscious manner, create sound energy policy and maintain stable energy prices for consumers.

Lawmakers, Consumers & Producers of Energy Turn Out in Support for CEA’s Energy Day 2009

WASHINGTON – May 13, 2009 Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA) president David Holt issued the following statement today as advocates of affordable, reliable energy came to Capitol Hill to celebrate Energy Day 2009 – and push forward an aggressive, “all of the above” agenda aimed at achieving long-term energy access, security and affordability:

“Doing what we can now to ensure affordable, reliable energy remains available in the future isn’t a Republican or Democratic issue – but it is a critical one if we expect to get this economy back on its feet and churning out new jobs for American workers. The breadth of participation and level of enthusiasm we saw at Energy Day today speaks to the urgent nature of that charge. Now it will be up to us to capture this momentum, harness it, and use it to advance an energy platform that helps us create millions of new jobs, billions in potential revenue and genuine security for the American people.”

More than 90 members of Congress (House and Senate) served on the Energy Day host committee this year, with senior Energy and Commerce Committee member Gene Green (D-Texas) joining Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.), ranking member on the House Natural Resources Committee, and Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) in addressing the assembled audience.

In addition to lawmaker participation, John Heimlich, vice president and chief economist for the Air Transport Association shared his perspective on the critical role that affordable energy plays in the transportations sector. Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace and now co-chairman of the Clean & Safe Energy Coalition, talked passionately of the need for a balanced approach to policy-making that relies more on nuclear power, and less on costly mandates. And McKie Campbell, minority staff director for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, shared his view on how energy and climate-related negotiations are progressing in the upper chamber.
