Proclamation sets national example that will support affordable, reliable energy diversity

BATON ROUGE, LAConsumer Energy Alliance (CEA), the leading energy and environmental advocate for families and businesses, commends Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry for his proclamation today declaring natural gas as an “affordable, reliable, and clean energy source.”

This timely declaration underscores the critical role natural gas plays as America’s second-largest energy source, according to the Energy Information Administration, and its power as a tool of U.S. geopolitical influence and energy security when exported as liquefied natural gas. Louisiana supplies 63% of the LNG exported around the world, according to the proclamation.

“Governor Landry’s proclamation today recognizing natural gas as a clean energy source is an example that other states should follow to protect the right of American consumers to access the energy they choose at a price they can afford,” CEA Vice President Kaitlin Hammons said. “At a time when energy affordability is a paramount concern across the nation, Gov. Landry’s proclamation exemplifies how to balance environmental stewardship and economic prosperity without compromising either.”

“By recognizing natural gas as a clean, affordable, and reliable energy source, this proclamation ensures that Louisiana consumers will continue to benefit from a diverse energy mix. This approach translates to more options in the energy market and, ultimately, lower prices for families and businesses,” she said.

“Natural gas has been a key driver in reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, enabling the U.S. to lead the world in the absolute emissions reductions for over two decades,” Hammons said. “That global environmental leadership has been conveniently ignored by those who seek to villainize natural gas, which underpins U.S. environmental leadership and America’s ability to influence global geopolitical energy security for her people and our friends and allies abroad.”

“We applaud Governor Landry for his bold leadership in supporting an ‘all of the above’ energy strategy and for recognizing the pivotal role of natural gas in securing a stable, affordable, and cleaner energy future for Louisiana and the entire nation. This consumer-first approach sets a powerful precedent.”

Gov. Landry and Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire recently established the Governor’s Coalition for Energy Choice, an alliance of 12 governors focused on creating policies to help Americans tackle high energy costs and energy-induced inflation.
