CEA President David Holt looks at how we will all be impacted as regional grid operators warn that our electric system is teetering close to the edge of blackouts and brownouts.
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), the grid’s watchdog, has repeatedly sounded the alarm about the declining reliability of our electricity grid. While their most recent assessment warned that several large swathes of the U.S. and Canada faced an elevated risk of blackouts during peak weather conditions this summer, we barely escaped prolonged outages. That is more a result of luck than skill.
