- New restrictions threaten energy security affordability for American families
- Decision continues troubling pattern of limiting domestic energy production that began with Keystone XL cancellation
HOUSTON – Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA) President David Holt today expressed deep concern over the Biden Administration’s decision to ban oil and natural gas development across vast areas of America’s offshore waters.
“This sweeping ban is the latest in a long series of restrictive energy policies that will be the ultimate legacy of the Biden Administration, all of which have made little to no impact on the environment. For four years, we’ve witnessed decisions that consistently limit American energy options rather than expand them,” Holt said. “This ban demonstrates the Biden Administration’s preference for making our nation more dependent on dirtier foreign energy sources rather than our own, which deliver cleaner and more affordable energy to American families and small businesses.”
Modern offshore energy development has a strong safety record and coexists with thriving tourism and fishing industries across the Gulf Coast.
“By taking these resources off the table, we’re not only potentially increasing costs for American consumers, we’re also passing up an opportunity to produce energy under some of the world’s strictest environmental standards,” Holt said. “The path to cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable energy isn’t through bans and restrictions – it’s through innovating, embracing all of our energy resources and keeping economic and environmental needs in harmony.”
