HOUSTON Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), the leading energy and environmental advocate for families and businesses, today congratulated former four-term New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu on his appointment as President and CEO of Airlines for America (A4A), which advocates on behalf of the leading U.S. passenger and cargo air carriers.

In his new role, Sununu will represent the leading companies in an U.S. industry that supports 10 million jobs, contributes about 5% of the nation’s GDP –  and which is extraordinarily sensitive to energy costs. U.S. airlines deliver 2.7 million people and 61 thousand tons of cargo to their destinations every single day. Among those leading carriers is Delta Air Lines, which has a seat on CEA’s board of directors.

“With passenger growth and jet fuel demand forecast to set records in the near term, Chris Sununu’s experience navigating through complex challenges to deliver results could not come at a better time for the U.S. airline industry,” Consumer Energy Alliance President David Holt said. “Gov. Sununu has demonstrated exceptional support for sensible, all-of-the-above energy policies because he understands the tremendous influence energy costs have on every corner of modern life. We expect that to continue in his new role advocating for an industry that literally cannot fly day in and day out without reliable energy, and which thrives when energy prices are affordable for passengers and cargo.”

Gov. Sununu is a co-founder of the Governor’s Coalition for Energy Security (GCES), a group of 11 U.S. states and 2 Canadian provinces focused on preserving all energy options, with the goals of fostering innovation, reducing regulatory barriers, and attracting business investment to benefit residents and the economy.

The airline industry is facing an increasing risk of jet fuel shortages unless existing infrastructure is repaired and improved, and new infrastructure built. CEA’s latest report, “Fueling Flight: The Hidden Impact of Jet Fuel Constraints on Consumer”, highlights those challenges and how they will cost American families unless they are addressed.
