- DOI Plan Expands Leasing in Pacific, Eastern Gulf & Alaska
- Robust 34-Sale Schedule Will Bolster Energy Security, Affordability
WASHINGTON – Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), the leading energy and environmental advocate for families and businesses, applauds today’s release of the Department of the Interior’s new National Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Program.
The updated five-year plan for 2026-2031 schedules 34 lease sales across the Pacific, expanded areas in the Gulf of America, and offshore Alaska – a major step toward ensuring continued access to affordable, reliable, and domestically produced energy.
“The robust 34-sale schedule BOEM has produced is a return to the normal way presidential administrations have treated the Gulf – as an important resource to be managed with the rigor and consistency that fosters investment certainty,” CEA Vice President Katie Hammons said. “With expanded leasing areas, this five-year plan will help deliver the affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy American families and businesses depend on every day.”
The plan proposes a new South-Central Gulf of America Planning Area with a 100-mile buffer off the coast of Florida, while no leases are proposed in the remaining Eastern planning area.
The Gulf of America accounts for 15% of America’s crude oil production, ensuring a consistent supply of affordable energy that lessens the economic impacts of inflation while maintaining our country’s energy security. The Trump Administration’s 2026-2031 Leasing Program proposes to reestablish America’s OCS oil and gas production, putting U.S. energy back in position to supply American consumers with affordable, reliable energy.
