CEA Applauds Landmark PUCT Approval of Texas Transmission Projects

Historic Decision Launches Grid Buildout Texas Cannot Afford to Abandon

HOUSTONConsumer Energy Alliance (CEA), the leading energy and environmental advocate for families and businesses, today applauded the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) for approving Oncor’s Dinosaur Switch–Longshore Switch and Longshore Switch–Drill Hole Switch projects and final routes, clearing the way for the first 765 kV transmission lines ever built in Texas.

The project is part of Texas’ next generation of high-voltage transmission infrastructure. By moving significantly more electricity over longer distances, 765 kV transmission can serve as a critical backbone for the ERCOT grid, easing congestion, strengthening reliability and helping ensure power can reach the communities that need it most.

“Texas cannot afford to wait until reliability problems become outages before building the infrastructure needed to prevent them,” CEA President David Holt said. “Today’s decision is a major step forward for Texas consumers, businesses and communities. Texas is growing at an extraordinary pace, and our electric infrastructure must keep pace. Building a stronger, more efficient transmission system is essential to keeping the lights on, supporting continued economic growth and ensuring Texans have access to reliable and affordable electricity.”

“Texas cannot meet tomorrow’s electricity needs with yesterday’s infrastructure. Building the grid we need now is critical to keeping the lights on, lowering costs and preserving Texas’ position as the nation’s energy leader,” Holt said.

CEA will continue to support the critical infrastructure investments needed to strengthen reliability, lower energy costs and ensure Texas families, businesses and communities have access to the affordable, reliable electricity they depend on.
