- Legislation encourages investment in new power generation
- Senate Bill 4 strengthens consumer protections and regulatory oversight
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), the leading energy and environmental advocate for families and businesses, today commended Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe for signing Senate Bill 4 into law, legislation that will strengthen Missouri’s energy infrastructure, promote economic growth, and enhance consumer protections.
“We applaud Governor Kehoe for signing Senate Bill 4 which will encourage economic investment in Missouri by ensuring affordable, reliable electricity is available to families and businesses while simultaneously strengthening regulatory oversight, protecting all energy consumers,” said CEA Midwest Executive Director Chris Ventura.
The bipartisan legislation addresses critical challenges facing Missouri’s energy grid as older generation facilities retire by reducing barriers to new power plant construction while adding important consumer safeguards. Key provisions include encouraging the construction of new power plants in Missouri, modernizing the grid, establishing a State Reliability Metric with stronger regulatory oversight, and providing special rate programs for customers facing high utility burdens.
