You know what they say, “Everything is bigger in Texas!” That truth rings clear in a recent study which shows that solar power capacity is expected to double in the Lone Star State this year. In fact, Texas remains one of the front-runners in the race to renewable energy. Known for its vibrant music scene, famous pecan pie, and signature cowboy hats, the state has a large amount of activity, events, and companies that need reliable sources of power. Solar energy is no longer being looked over, and more families are choosing renewable energy to power their lives.

Georgetown, Texas is 100% powered by wind and solar energy. Georgetown’s conservative, Republican mayor considers himself to be a ‘champion of renewable energy’ and says that because of his decision to go solar, electricity costs are some of the lowest in Central Texas.

According to the Solar Foundation, Texas comes in 4th in state rankings for highest number of solar jobs with a total of 8,873 positions.

In 2017, the state of Texas generated 18% of its energy from wind and solar.

  • Largest Solar Plant in Texas, Coming Soon
    Canadian renewable energy company, Innergex, has bought what will be the largest solar project in Texas when built. At full capacity it will have the ability to power 53,000 households by the end of 2019. Innergex has acquired the rights to begin work on the Phoebe Solar Farm, and 250-megawatt solar project in Winkler County, Texas on the border of New Mexico.
  • Texas Oil Refinery Adds Solar Component
    A planned oil refinery complex in Pecos County, Texas is adding an add-on of solar power to its business plan. MMEX Resources CEO, Jack W. Hanks emailed Rigzone to announce that they have “formed MMEX Solar Resources, LLC and filed the trademark to develop a solar power project to potentially supply solar power renewable energy to our refinery projects in Phases 1 and 2.”
