- Hampton Roads Wind Industry Hub
House Bill 234, bipartisan legislation introduced in 2020, would establish the Division of Offshore Wind to facilitate the establishment of the Hampton Roads region as a wind industry hub for offshore wind generation projects in state and federal waters.
The first wind turbines installed in U.S. Federal waters were completed in June 2020 in the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project.
Virginia became the first state to receive a wind energy research lease to build and operate offshore wind turbines in federal waters.
